Early Settlers Personal History
1. Sarah Elizabeth (Lee) Moore 2. Paris, Ark. R-1 3. Retired 4. Housewife and field worker on farm 5. September 3rd,1853 6. 1 ½ miles east of Subiaco Ark. 7. Mr. Green Littleton Moore August 26th 1870 old home place 8. Native (Johnson County) 1853 9. September 3rd 1853 10. Native 11. Native 12. Hewn log house stick and dirt chimney 13. Beef taller [sic] (tallow) candles lighted by powder and flint rock 14. Have never been used 15. Wood 16. Wild hogs, beef, turkey, flour ground on Burr rock mill, deer and turkey 17. Home spun made on the home spinning wheel and loom 18. None 19. Bought clothing was high 25 cents per yard for calico, 25 cents for a spool of thread, Spadra, Ark. Trading Point, and Morrison Bluff Goods came by boat. Flour came by barrel sugar by barrel 20. Would hook up oxen and tar? poole? wagon and take food to neighbors 21. Corn and cotton, cotton seed was rolled in ashes dropped by hand 22. Home made 23. None 24. For example - all used as mentioned, all supplies were hidden in mountains for safe keeping Bushwhackers were numerous 25. When school days began - started at 10 years of age - had all activities mentioned under no. 25 26. Brush brooms - would back fire on it - no town fires 27. Valley in which old settler lives named Greasy Valley old settlers would steal hogs , cattle and bring them to the valley so they called it Greasy Valley since 1860 28. None of former - Boat landings at Roseville - Spadra, Dardanelle some 10 mile distant 29. First school Reggon School house log school house split log benches located ½ a mile north east of Subiaco Lee School House 1 ½ miles Southeast of Subiaco.
